Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is used by many Rabbitry's. There are many health benefits in the use of ACV and it is all natural. Many animal breeders use ACV in water for horses, poultry, goats you name it. Humans can also use it for it's many health benefits.
Catalaya's Rabbitry uses 2 Tablespoons of ACV per gallon of water year around. It is important however to start the introduction of ACV slowly to your rabbits until you reach up to the 2 Tablespoons.
You will find that ACV keeps the urine smell from the rabbits down, keeps the immune system up, helps prevent urinary tract problems, keeps ph levels regulated, weepy eyes, skin ailments, digestion, breeding, fleas and mites, etc. You can also use it as a cleaner as nothing helps with get your drop pans cleaner!
Using ACV in crocks and water bottles will keep the green algae from growing during warmer months. It will also disinfect pans, bottles, and crocks. The scaling urine build up in drop pans is easily removed with ACV but a cheaper alternative to ACV is white viengar for cleaning saving the good stuff for the rabbits.
Ear mites can be treated with olive oil and a few drops (5-7 drops) of ACV. Put mixture in the ear hold ear closed while rubbing the base for a few minutes. Continue treatment daily or every other day for 2 weeks.
If you show or plan on showing your rabbits ACV in the water will help when traveling as the water will taste the same as at home. This will help you not having to bring your own water only a small bottle of ACV.
ACV will NOT hurt your rabbits or have any negative side effects as it is a natural tonic. You will start to see the benefits of ACV approximately 4 weeks after starting to add it to their water. You will notice the does are more willing and easier to breed, more female kits will be born per litter (according to some breeders), fur will be softer and shinier.
Make sure you purchase real ACV not apple colored or flavored white vinegar!!!
