Wether or not your breeding for meat, show, pelts, or pets you will need to figure out how many litters per year you want. You should also take into consideration the condition of your doe. If she is too heavy you would want to breed her 4 weeks after kindling and if she is on the lighter side you may want to wait to rebreed her until 8 weeks after kindling.
Below is information on when to rebreed your does to get the number of litters you want per year.
4 Litters Per Year
Four litters can be produced annually per doe by breeding the doe on the day her liter is weaned (at
8 weeks/56 days). Following this schedule she will produce a new liter about every 88 days (Birth to Weaning: 56 days + mating to kindling: 32 days= 88
days)
5 Litters Per Year
A doe can produce 5 liters each year if she is bred when her current litter is 6 weeks/42 days old. This means that with a weaning age of 8 weeks the doe will have a rest period between liters of about 17 days. Under this schedule the doe will produce a new liter about every 74 days. (42+32=74)
6 Litters Per Year
Rebreed the doe when her current litter is 4 weeks/28 days old. The litter should be weaned at 4-6 weeks old giving the doe a rest period of 2-4 weeks. With this schedule the doe will produce a new litter every 60 days. (28+32=60)
